Here I am with another sewing project done! Again, the pattern it’s from By Hand London, the lovely Anna Dress. Like it happened for Elisalex, I’ve seen so many beautiful Annas popping up from every sewing blog that I had to sew my own version.
I like the pattern for its clean lines and simplicity, but also for its versatility – it can dress you up or down depending on which fabric and length you choose, plus you have two option for the neckline as well. I opted for the midi length with slash neckline for an everyday use, but I’d like to sew the long version with that very indecent split too! It would make a truly gorgeous dress!
Anyway, for my first Anna – as I’m sure there will be loads to come – I’ve used a border print cotton. I fell in love with the colors of the roses as soon as I’ve seen the fabric and I thought to make a good use of the nice border using it both for the top and for the skirt, turning it upside down. I really like those bright blues with a touch of green and lavender.
For the dress I cut a straight size US8/UK12, with no mods at all apart from adding a full lining – I didn’t want any lingerie pick a boos from the white background of the main fabric! I think the fit its pretty good even if the waistline is a bit higher at the front and the shoulder seams slid towards the back a couple of cm. But I’m sure some of my lovely readers will come up with a suggestion to help me fixing those little problems! Hey, seamstress, I’m talking to you! Also, I have a bit of gaping at the back but I’ve already found some helpful notes on the Internet, like the tutorial from Gingermakes.
Anyhow, the dress came together beautifully and I can’t wait to sew the second one! Thanks BH girls for another great pattern! :)
